Evaluation of Niche Market Opportunities: Digital Print
22 May 2009
Challenge
To assist in the decision-making process regarding entry into the OEM market for superwide digital printers in Europe. Should the client enter the market via investment in a joint venture product launch of a specific new digital printer?
Approach
Primary research targeted to provide a pan-European representation of the market:
using a questionnaire, agreed with the client, and translated into relevant languages, interviews were conducted with printers and OEM suppliers active in the display and advertising print market.
The interviews established the current picture of the European display and advertising digital printing and revealed future trends as well as volumes. The presented intelligence was split by:
- Applications and formats
- Substrates
- Installed equipment base
- Ink types
- Key equipment purchase drivers
- Key supplier strengths and weaknesses
- Future trends and requirements
Recommendations
A business opportunity exists, however the printer capability must be benchmarked against competition and in line with market requirements.
Benefits
The client's prospective joint venture partner is modifying the digital printer according to the study recommendations. The client has made a commercially sound investment backed by an up-to-date and accurate feedback from the market place.
