Martin Kay
Chief Consultant
Martin has over 15 years consultancy experience in legislation, technology procurement and R&D development in environment, process, and product improvement within the paper and packaging industries. He has extensive mill operations experience gained in liner and fluting, tissue, newsprint, printing and writings and specialty sectors and has initiated process improvement (water reuse, effluent treatment), wet end process control strategies for production increase, and waste to energy programmes.
Martin leads a specialist team within Pira, challenged with differentiating and adding value to products and services for clients whilst reducing manufacturing costs within global markets. He also works extensively with the R&D community in the UK and Europe assisting clients to leverage funding from UK and European framework initiatives.
He holds a BSc and PhD in microbiology and Diploma in Management Studies from Reading University.
