Exclusive case study from Tesco headlines Pira’s Paperboard Packaging 2010 conference

Pira International in partnership with TAPPI is proud to announce the programme for the inaugural Paperboard Packaging 2010 conference featuring presentations from the industry's leading experts.

The event will be hosted at the Ramada Budapest Hotel, Hungary on 23-24 June 2010. Opened and chaired by Graham Moore, PIRA INTERNATIONAL and a representative from TAPPI, Paperboard Packaging 2010 will bring together leading minds in paperboard and associated industries to discuss the current challenges and opportunities facing converters, mills and end users.

The first day of the conference will commence with a macro-economic analysis of mature market dynamics from NORDEA CORPORATE MERCHANT BANK, followed by new market data on global paperboard packaging markets by PIRA INTERNATIONAL. Opportunities through R&D in paperboard packaging will be discussed by PAKKAUSTEKNOLOGIA-PTR.
Afterwards, representatives from DOMINO, CAREO, TETLEY GROUP will lead a panel debate on the future of the industry. The morning session will end with a presentation on meeting sustainability objectives using paperboard packaging by TESCO.

Afternoon sessions will be focussed on sustainability, starting with PIRA INTERNATIONAL defining what sustainability means itself and followed by a papermaker case study on the sustainability at the mill from IGGESUND PAPERBOARD. Developments and innovation in recycling paperboard packaging will be discussed by speakers from MAYER-MELNHOF
KARTON
while ASIA PULP & PAPER's presentation will analyse the Asian markets and sustainability's role in this geography.

Day two of the conference takes a more technical angle on manipulation of paperboard properties, while retaining the commercial angle. It will begin with speakers from KORSNÄS focusing at enhancing the functionality of paperboard packaging, CYPAK illustrating how to exploit new technologies in this packaging format, and IMERYS will analyse fresh commercial opportunities for paperboard enabled by improved barrier coatings. The conference will end with a talk on novel applications with fillers and coatings by KEMIRA and a presentation from KARLSTAD UNIVERSITY on how to improve strength and rigidity.
