Fragile Product Testing
Engineered products in the electronics, medical, high-tech, defence, automotive and aerospace sectors often incorporate complex mechanical, optical or electronic components, sensors and assemblies. These products, components or assembles can be vulnerable to physical hazards such as shock and vibration, as well as climatic hazards. Such physical and climatic hazards can occur either during shipment while a product is contained within its packaging, or when the product is unpackaged during use.
Industrial laser components, integrated curcuit board assemblies, LED and LCD displays, photovoltaics, opthalmic instrumentation, missile assemblies and laboratory equipment and are all examples of products incorporating vulnerable parts.
These pages detail Pira's testing and consulting services for fragile or vulnerbale engineered products:
Product Fragility Assessment and Packaging Design
For engineered products or components it is critical to understand the product's vulnerabilities in order that packaging can be designed effectively to allow safe shipment of the product from point of packing to point of use, and at minimum cost. Pira offers Fragilty Testing to quantify a products damage boundary and tollerance to shock and vibration. Pira also offers Package Design for Fragile Products, with design work incorporating product fragility testing data; this normally involves development of expanded foam or other cushion packaging solutions for vulnerable products.
Durability and Environmental Testing
Engineered products are exposed to severe physical and climatic hazards throughout their operational life. These product require stringent performance testing during design and development, to assure reliability of the product. Pira offer Durability and Environmental Testing services for manufacturers and OEMs in these sectors.
Pira offers testing for engineered products in London, UK; Lansing, Michigan; Sunnyvale, California; and Huntington Beach, California.
