Bursting strength - Board burst and paper burst

At Pira, bursting strength is determined using a Messmer digital hydraulic paper or digital hydraulic board burst tester. The burst test is frequently used as a general guide to the strength of paper, solid board and corrugated board. Bursting strength is usually quoted in kPa.

Pira's UKAS, ISO 17025 accredited testing is performed to British standard BS 3137, BS 2922:1 and International standard ISO 2758 and ISO 2759. Hydraulic and pneumatic bursting strength testing is included in Pira's Paper Proficiency Service.
