Compression strength

Compression testing of packages

The compression strength of individual primary packaging samples such as cartons, bottles and cans is performed at Pira using a Tinius Olsen tensile test machine having a 25kN load capacity.

Larger transit packaging, including fibreboard cases and palletised goods, are routinely compression tested in our UKAS, ISO 17025 accredited distribution laboratory.

Compression testing of foam structures

The compression stress value and compression stress-strain characteristics of flexible cellular materials can be determined by Pira in accordance with DIN 53577.
